— A new NHL expansion team is on the horizon, with the Vancouver Canucks expected to join the league as an expansion team on July 1.
Vegas Sun Sports has learned that the Canucks are expected to announce their move to the Las Vegas franchise on Monday.
Vancouver is expected to add to the 20-player NHL roster and will play in the first-ever outdoor arena, which has been proposed by MGM Resorts International.
The stadium, slated to open next season, would be the first to be constructed outside of the NHL.
Voters in November approved a $1.5 billion stadium plan for Las Vegas, which would be built with $1 billion from the NHL and other sports leagues.
The Las Vegas stadium is set to open in 2021, and will host NHL games for a decade.
